Terry Allen (b.1943), from Lubbock, Texas, is an artist in a wide variety of media, including music, theater, sculpture, painting, drawing, video, and film.
After a semester at Texas Tech University, Terry Allen moved to the West Coast for professional training at Chouinard Art Institute in painting and sculpture. Along with being a successful artist and sculptor, Allen pursued a career in music. His first performance was an original two-song medley on TV’s Shindig! in 1965, and he later wrote hits such as Little Feat’s “New Delhi Freight Train.” After his debut album Juarez (1975), he released his iconic LUBBOCK (on everything) in 1979. The album was produced at Don Caldwell Studios and utilized local talent, including several members of the Maines Brothers Band. Terry Allen continues to collaborate with his wife and fellow artist, Jo Harvey Allen.
Terry Allen was inducted into the West Texas Walk of Fame in 1997.
